All Rugby Schools Weekly Digest
The Week of the Protectors of the Realm!
by Program Coordinator on October 10 2021.
Past two weeks (27 Sept to 09 Oct) have been about onboarding Subscribers/Members/Players to:
1. The DARE and
2. Protectors of the Ream
Onboarding of POTR Members
The past two weeks have been spent onboarding Members/Subscribers/Players to the Protectors of the Realm. The Protectors of the Realm is the student representative body of the various Ruling House Communities (www.allrugbyschools-edp.org/ruling-houses). The onboarding process involves the distribution of letters to students that have been selected for this term. The letter explains the next steps which involve registration on a designated online form setup for this purpose. We have thus far onboarded just one Ruling House Community. We look forward to onboarding more Communities in the coming week. Thereafter all POTR members shall meet and discuss what they hope to achieve this term.
Onboarding members to The DARE and STATERs
We printed slips which explain how to subscribe to our online learning program, the DARE + STATERs, and distributed them amongst all Members/Subscribers/Players during training sessions. We shall continue to distribute the slips at training sessions. See image of slip below.
NOTE: Going forward Masters shall focus on ONLY Members/Subscribers/Players that have subscribed to our online learning program, The DARE. The online program trains members on various skills ahead of onsite training at school and is our primary means of training seeing as we have such little time with Members/Subscribers/Players during the week (45 mins to 60 mins per week).
School Coaches book ahead of Masters attending Training
We have introduced a new process for school coaches to request the presence of a Master to train their Ruling House Communities. School coaches are required to complete the form found here: https://forms.gle/gZNL9FdYKRUiN8ee6 at least 24 hours ahead of the agreed date for training. The objective in requiring this form to be completed is to ensure our Masters turn up to training only when needed and avoid situations wherein Master turns up when the Members/Subscribers/Players are unavailable for training.
Intra Teams and Inter Ruling House Community games
We are planning Intra Teams and Inter Ruling House Community games. We shall be reaching out to Ruling House Communities from the week of the 10th of October to arrange dates and times.
2022 July/Aug Touring
We are planning a tour of schools in South Africa for July/Aug 2022. This tour shall be for Members/Subscribers/Players in year 11/12. Enrolment for the tour shall commence this term. It shall be for the Senior Boys and Girls only teams. Each Ruling House shall be represented. See below for the schedule of the expected touring party.
THIS WEEK’S
TOP STORIES
The DARE, online program starts 4th October 2021 for all Students
by Program Coordinator on September 25
The DARE by SHIZZLE, our online program for all members of the All Rugby Schools started in July 2021. We require all Members that sign-up for training at school to also have subscribed to the online program. We realised that the one hour each week we have with members at school is grossly inadequate. We resorted to creating online videos that are released each week for members to watch. After watching, members use our online recorder to record themselves doing the activity requested in the video. Their recordings are marked and results posted in the chat in the online program app.
From the 4th of October 2021, we shall require all members that attend training at school to have subscribed to our online program app, The DARE by Shizzle. All ARS schools were notified of this development ahead of the start of the new term as follows:
1. Ahead of the commencement of this term we informed all schools of this development in writing through the School Registration form which all schools completed and submitted.
2. We there-after set-up meetings with every Head of Co-curricular and the School coach to prep the school ahead of the start of term using our School Prep Form.
We went further at this week's training session and informed all members that attended training of the need to subscribe to our online program before the 4th of October which is when we start training only members at school that have subscribed to the online program.
Use this link https://youtu.be/bnCHTUwdqiA to view a brief intro video to the online program.
For members that have not signed up, they simply head to: www.allrugbyschools-edp.org/payment
Once there they simply complete the online form and have their parents pay the monthly subscription of NGN 1,800 per month (before VAT). For boarders we can come to an arrangement wherein members are given access to the program with the understanding that parents make payments of the 1st term months consumed at the end of the 1st term. However the online form must be completed.
Alongside access to the online program, members receive:
● STATERs Bank Card
● STATERs Online ATM PIN
● STATERs Banking App Access
● Online Hangout Mall Access
● STATERs dependent on activities such as:
○ Proficiency Badges
○ Activities on The DARE by SHIZZLE
○ Attendance at training
○ Full and Half Colors
○ POTR Membership

It's been an eventful start to the week and Term.
Honour Board
For schools with updated Honour Boards I do hope you like the updated boards.
Late attendance to training
We encourage all members to arrive at training on time and together. It is very difficult to manage a class with members coming-in at varying times. It is also quite distracting when classes are disrupted by teachers requesting members leave in the middle of a class.
60 minutes minimum training period
Some ARS schools have allocated less than 60 minutes for a training session. We would urge such schools to revise the time table.
Minimum of 60 minutes is required for an effective training session to cover:
Warm-up - 10 minutes
Interaction and feedback - 2 minutes
Game derived Drill - 1 - 12 minutes
Interaction and feedback - 2 minutes
Game derived Drill - 2 - 12 minutes
Interaction and feedback - 2 minutes
Game - 15 minutes
Interaction and feedback - 2 minutes
One training session per week
Seeing as the ARS sponsors the program at each ARS school, our budget is limited and needs to be managed carefully. The core of our budget goes to the training at schools. We can only afford to have one training session for each school. We are unable to return for a second time within the week to train members at the same school.
Sport Kit
We require all members to attend training in their sport kit and not their school uniform.
Transcripts for Students applying for places at 6th Form Colleges and Universities
We have received requests from members applying for places at 6th form colleges and Universities for transcripts of their time at the ARS. We are glad to provide such to members upon request.
Master Segun
We wish Master Segun the best as he progresses to new challenges and opportunities. His schools shall now be managed between Master Seyi and Master Emmanuel.
Master Seun
We wish Master Seun safe delivery of her baby as she is on maternity leave.

Season 4 - ARS - Third (3rd) Secondary School league match
Good morning Members,
Secondary school match of 11th May 2019 at the Barbarians was a success. We wish to thank BIS for making their facilities available. See below for some matters arising
Use of foul language
We witnessed several incidents of foul language being used by players. Rugby engages players in such a manner it asks questions of players character under pressure. Unlike all other sports the level of intensiveness cannot be matched. Hence players are seen at their best and worst. Its an opportunity for us to work on whatever surfaces during the matches at an individual level. This we shall do.
Finger nails must be trimmed
Players must ensure their nails are trimmed down to a healthy level
Respect for player venue
Players must appreciate that once away from school they fly the flag of their team and school and must thus behave in an appropriate manner. We observed players from visiting schools wondering about despite being cautioned continuously to confine themselves to their respective playing fields.
Ball retention, team work and support
Good ball retention and allowing the ball to do the work by the Barbarians and Red Jedis across their teams. The school coaches must be congratulated as team work and support play was evident.
Parent participation
Unfortunately there was little parent participation. However the Red Jedis parents turned up in force. They must be congratulated.
Over aggressiveness across the teams
We observed an over aggressive approach to play across the Teams. Players need to exercise self restraint and some emotional intelligence.
No alcohol permitted
Players and non-players are not under any condition permitted to consume alcohol.
Excellent coaching by school coaches
Coaches exercised good self restraint and control throughout the day and must be commended.
1st X Girls only performance
Girls only team has improved in leaps and bounds and the players must be congratulated
1st X Girls only and 1st XV Contact team Trophy
Trophy for the 1st X Girls only and 1st XV Contact team has been ordered and is arriving in-country Friday 17th May 2019
Honour Board for Full and Half Colour
Dan Ceil has been commissioned to do the next set of Honour Boards for the years 2017/18. Please expect delivery over the next couple of weeks.
18th May Final Match
This Saturday at the Barbarians grounds we shall witness the final match of the season. We encourage parents and school staff to please attend and encourage their teams.
Cancellation of make-up match
Make-up match for the 1st of June has been cancelled as we do not have enough school participation.
ARS Team Reward card
ARS Team Reward card trial has commenced. Encourage players invited to participate to sign-up here
